Since its opening in 1968 as a school for vocational training in the Barbering trade, Bladensburg Barber School has served the education and training needs of the Prince George’s County Maryland community for more than 40 years. Located in the historic town of Bladensburg, the school currently offers a 1200-hour barber training program with full-time and part-time class schedules.

The mission of Bladensburg Barber School is to deliver high quality vocational training that prepares successful graduates for career opportunities in the Barbering trade. The leadership at Bladensburg Barber School is committed to providing students with the core knowledge and skills to be competitive in today’s job market. Students completing the Barbering program qualify to take the state examination for licensing by the State Board of Barbers.

Serving the Community
Since its opening in 1968 as a school for vocational training in the Barbering trade, Bladensburg Barber School has served the education and training needs of the Prince George’s County Maryland community for more than 50 years. Located in the historic town of Bladensburg, this downtown location is 7 miles northwest of Washington, D.C. and accessible by public transportation.
The Job Market
Barbers held about 66,500 jobs in 2019 with 70 percent self employed. In a May 2019 report of the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, Maryland was the top paying state for the Barbering occupation. Employment of barbers is projected to increase by 7 percent from 2019 to 2029. The need for barbers will stem primarily from an increasing population, which will lead to greater demand for basic hair care services.
Rolling Admissions
Bladensburg Barber School has rolling admissions for its Barbering program. New classes begin each month. The flexibility in admissions helps meet the varying scheduling needs of our diverse population of students. The School offers full-time and part-time training courses that can be completed in 8 and 12 months.
State License Preparation
Bladensburg Barber School’s comprehensive Barber training program prepares students for licensing by the Maryland State Board of Barbers. Upon successful completion of the Barbering program, students receive a Certificate of Completion and the application to begin the State Board Examination process.
